One year. One city. Endless opportunities.

Win One for the D

Love Detroit? Love ice cream? Love free money?

Here's a chance to combine all three. The Detroit Goodwill Ben & Jerry's is a participant in the ice-cream company's national video contest. Every time you view the Detroit shop's video on YouTube, they are one step closer to winning $5,000. Goodwill plans to use the money to train Metro Detroiters for local jobs.

The contest ends June 30, and every view/vote counts. Plus, the video is just hilarious. It introduces you to “Scoopy D,” a mustachioed cup of ice cream that shows off the 10 best places in Detroit to eat your Ben & Jerry's treat. My favorite one is No. 8: Ford Field. When Scoopy talks about the Lions, he shakes his little frosty head in despair with a deflated “Wa-wa-wa-whaaa!” in the background.

Here's a link -- click it often! To see other info, click here for Facebook and here for Twitter.

The big push is to get people to share the video on your own network – email, Facebook, Twitter and the like. It's a “let's work together to win one for Detroit” kind of thing, according to my friend Zak Walsh. We're the underdog right now, losing to Texas. We CANNOT let this happen! Get voting! We need this thing to go viral.

Background: The Goodwill PartnerShop is located in the Compuware building (1014 Woodward Avenue) in downtown Detroit. It is owned and operated by Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit. The store provides paid work experiences for Southeast Michigan youth with barriers to employment and offers tasty treats for Metro Detroiters looking to satisfy their cravings for sweets. Proceeds from the PartnerShop support a range of Goodwill Industries programs designed to help the people of Southeast Michigan earn job opportunities by becoming trained, trusted and ready to work.

For more information on Goodwill, check out its stuff on YouTube, Facebook, Twitter or the web site.
