A Final Thought
One final thought on the Kwame story today: I noticed an odd sense of celebration about the sentencing. People seemed to have some sort of euphoria over the former mayor's latest downfall.
Facebook, Twitter, whatever your poison – every social media outlet was blazing with information, comment and critique. Really, this is about justice. The man did wrong; he should be punished. That's the law. That's how society works. It's not about rejoicing. We should be happy the system succeeded.
It will be nice to get this behind us. Hard to say whether that will ever happen. However, I loved the bizarre combination of political consultant Sam Riddle turning himself in to the Feds as well today -- adding that it was a "great day" to go to jail.

Justice and a stern courtroom rebuke were the focus of celebration in just about all social media comments I saw and conversations I participated in.
The rejoicing, in my view, reflects relief that "our long municipal nightmare is over," as former Bing administration press secretary Edward Cardenas put it on Facebook.
Others seem pleased that Prosecutor Kym Worthy prevailed again and that Judge David Groner said what many of us have thought. A high school teacher's remarks below are typical of more than 100 Facebook comments yesterday and today on an unofficial Fans of Judge David Groner site:
"Thank you Judge Groner. You give us reason to hope that justice will always prevail. Thank you so very much."
Lastly, our friend Matt Friedman celebrates another institution. He blogs that yesterday was "a great day for journalism and a reminder of the important role that it plays in our democracy."
Most euphoria is well-placed, from what I see and hear.

While many may celebrate. I am relieved that this mess is over so the city can push forward without the side show.

This is why I am getting weary of this blog. Of the four items in today's blog email, three concern Kilpatrick. Granted, he's big news, but I've already seen the extensive coverage (both locally and nationally) and I look to this blog for something different: information I don't have or a tremendously unique perspective on what is happening. I don't need a rehash of what has already happened or what people are saying - because I already know that. If I'm a reader of your blog, you can bet that I'm very likely on Twitter and Facebook and can see what is being said there.
Of course, I appreciate that you've got to cover Kilpatrick and acknowledge what has occurred, but please just do it once per day. Hey, maybe lead the blog with that news, but don't hit me with the same topic three times (as I've seen you do before) or I'm apt to go elsewhwere.

Nonsense nothing is over if you recall Karen in our nation the right of an appeal is inherent in our justice system..
There are a couple of grounds for KK's appeal to have merit please take the time and revisit's KK defense counsel's opinion. The Judge in sentence was over the top and singled our KK based upon his political profile not on his individual rights as protected by our consitution..
There is no joy when excessive force is used by the criminal justice system for a killer cop to a zealot judge on a mission to be the next supreme court justice in our state..It is tragic that adultery can become a criminal offense when the parties are Black..It is tragic that an entire media industry engages in sleaze and tabloid journalism to validate and excuse investigative journalism..
No I am ashamed of how yet again this region is scapegoating and indicting yet another Black man for the decay and decadence of Detroit and this entire region
No I refuse to be a party this level of intellectual cowardice and the fiction of a Big Black Boogie Man....I refuse to validate and revisit the era of NEGROPHOBIA not now not ever..
No this is not over right here..right now
