One year. One city. Endless opportunities.

Detroit, Get Out There

MANY "don't miss" events tonight (is there something in the air?):

* PechaKucha — loosely translated as "chit chat" in Japanese — opens its doors at 7 p.m. at The Henry Ford Museum. The event, which originated in 2003, aims to create a forum where "designers, artists and architects share their ideas by showing slides and talking about them," according to organizers. But there's no time to waste: You get 20 slides per person. 20 seconds per slide (20:20). Then it's onto the next speaker. Co-sponsored by AIA Detroit Emerging Professionals Committee and Detroit Synergy. Read all about it here.

* Similar in style, Ignite Detroit is an evening of speedy presentations. Selected by their community, speakers must wow their audience in just five minutes using only twenty slides that auto advance every 15 seconds, said local blogger, PR guru and organizer Brandon Chesnutt. Think PechaKucha... but for creatives and geeks, he said. Currently, there are active Ignite communities all over the world. This is the very first Ignite Detroit event. Admission is free, but the event is sold out. Doors at the Magic Stick in Detroit open at 6:30pm and presentations start at 8 p.m. More info here.

* Model D's February Speaker Event is called This is Young Detroit and asks “Are we making Detroit a place where young and talented people want to be?” The event will be held at the Majestic Theatre in Midtown. It features guest speakers Brian Ellison, Palencia Mobley, Alok Sharma, Akindele Akinyemi, Roland Leggett, and James Canning. Get more details here.
